Sophia B. Cutino is a documentary photographer with a BA in Culture and Media from The New School in New York City, NY and currently completing her Master's in Journalism at UC Berkeley.

 

She began her photography career in California, by contributing photographs and written pieces to art collectives, magazines and festivals such as Our Era Magazine, Pure Nowhere, Five07 Creative Fest, and various others. She held the position of Event Photographer and Journalist for Sunstroke Magazine from 2018-2020. She has written and directed eight short films, as well as been commissioned for multiple short commercials and photoshoots for up-and-coming brand’s ad campaigns before working as the Art Director with Eleven and A Half Journal and a photography assistant for the menswear brand RSVLTS.

Her digital media focus’ are in experimental filmmaking, as well as, editorial and lifestyle photography. 

Her style jumps between fiction and non-fiction, and tends to focus on capturing the mundane details of daily life with added notes of surrealism and overarching themes of personal growth and bodily autonomy.  She works with 35mm and digital photography as well as digital, 16mm, and 8mm video.

She currently volunteers in her former high school's darkroom, teaching the youth how to shoot, develop, and print B&W film; runs a weekly Sunday poetry group; and freelances photojournalism.
